Payment Gateway Malaysia: 2026 Fees Compared
Compare payment gateways in Malaysia for 2026: FPX, card and e-wallet fees, payout times, SSM rules, and plugins for Shopify, WooCommerce and Shopline.
The main payment gateways for Malaysian online stores are Billplz, senangPay, toyyibPay, HitPay, Razorpay Curlec and Stripe, plus SHOPLINE Payments for Shopline stores. Their published FPX online banking fees run from a flat RM0.75 to 3% + RM1 per payment, so the cheapest choice depends on your order size and on how your customers pay. Shopify Payments is not available in Malaysia, so Shopify stores also pay Shopify’s own third-party fee of 0.2% to 2%.
Payment gateways in Malaysia compared
These are the standard published rates for each provider, checked in October 2026. Higher plans and high-volume merchants can get lower rates.
| Gateway | Setup or yearly fee | FPX | Local cards | E-wallets and QR | Payout | Plugins |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Billplz | Free (Basic), RM999 a year (Standard) | RM1.25 (RM0.75 on Standard) | 1.8% (1.5% on Standard) | E-wallets 1.5%, also DuitNow QR | FPX next business day, cards T+2 | Shopify (+0.3%), WooCommerce, OpenCart |
| senangPay | RM199 a year (FPX and e-wallets), RM349 a year (all methods) | 1.5%, minimum RM1 | 2.5%, minimum RM0.65 | E-wallets 1.5%, minimum RM0.65 | From the next working day | Shopify, WooCommerce, OpenCart, Shopline (in testing) |
| toyyibPay | None for FPX. Cards: RM100 onboarding, then RM100 a year | RM1.00 | 1.5% | DuitNow QR: 1% or RM1 | FPX 1 to 4 business days, cards 4 | WooCommerce |
| HitPay | None | 1.8% + RM0.40 | 1.2% + RM1 | DuitNow QR 1.2%, Touch ’n Go 1.9%, GrabPay 2%, ShopeePay 2.2% | T+2 business days, cards from T+1 | Shopify (+0.5%), WooCommerce (+0.2%), OpenCart (+0.2%) |
| Razorpay Curlec | RM0 (Basic), RM999 one-time (Premium) | 1.5%, minimum RM1 | 2.4% | Touch ’n Go and GrabPay 1.5% | T+2 working days | Shopify, WooCommerce, OpenCart |
| Stripe | None | 3% + RM1 | 3% + RM1 | GrabPay 3% | Rolling, weekly or monthly | WooCommerce |
| SHOPLINE Payments | Part of a Shopline plan | RM1.00 | 2% + RM1 | Touch ’n Go, GrabPay, Boost and DuitNow 1.5% | T+4 working days | Shopline only |
A figure in brackets in the plugins column is the gateway’s own surcharge on that platform, on top of its normal rates. Ask each provider whether its rates include tax. SHOPLINE, for example, quotes its rates before 8% SST.
We could not find a current public rate card for iPay88 (which now operates under the ADAPTIS brand of NTT DATA Payment Services), Fiuu (formerly Razer Merchant Services) or 2C2P. Ask them for a written quote that lists setup, yearly and per-transaction fees, then compare it with the table.
Flat FPX fee or percentage: which costs less?
Here is what one FPX payment costs at each gateway’s entry rate:
| Gateway | FPX on a RM50 order | FPX on a RM300 order |
|---|---|---|
| toyyibPay | RM1.00 | RM1.00 |
| Billplz (Basic) | RM1.25 | RM1.25 |
| senangPay | RM1.00 | RM4.50 |
| Razorpay Curlec | RM1.00 | RM4.50 |
| HitPay | RM1.30 | RM5.80 |
| Stripe | RM2.50 | RM10.00 |
A flat fee wins as soon as orders grow. On a RM300 order, Billplz’s RM1.25 is about 0.4% of the sale, while Stripe’s 3% + RM1 comes to RM10. On small orders the gap closes because of the RM1 minimums. Card fees are percentage-based at every gateway, so card-heavy stores should compare the card column first.
What payment methods do Malaysian buyers expect?
- FPX online banking. FPX is owned and operated by PayNet, and Stripe describes it as one of the most popular online payment methods in Malaysia. Every gateway in the table supports it.
- Cards. Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards. Foreign cards cost more: Stripe adds 1%, and HitPay charges 3% + RM1.
- E-wallets and DuitNow QR. Touch ’n Go eWallet, GrabPay, Boost and ShopeePay, plus DuitNow QR, which customers can pay from bank apps and e-wallets. Coverage varies by gateway, so check the wallets you need.
- Buy now, pay later. Atome, PayLater by Grab and SPayLater. Atome and PayLater by Grab are the most expensive methods on these rate cards, at 5.5% to 6.5%, sometimes plus RM1. senangPay lists SPayLater at 2%.
Can a sole proprietor get a payment gateway?
Yes, once the business is registered with SSM. senangPay requires SSM registration and an owner aged at least 18. Its basic documents are the SSM certificate, the owner’s IC and a recent bank statement. HitPay accepts sole proprietors with an SSM business profile and lets them receive payouts into a personal account in the owner’s name. Sabah businesses that are not registered with SSM can submit a business licence to HitPay instead.
Make sure the name on your bank account matches your SSM record. Expect requests for product photos, or licences for regulated goods.
Which gateway works with your store platform?
- Shopify. Shopify Payments is not offered in Malaysia, so every Shopify store uses a third-party gateway. Shopify then charges its third-party transaction fee: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus. Billplz and HitPay add their own Shopify surcharge as well. Our Shopify pricing guide works through the full monthly cost.
- WooCommerce and OpenCart. The platform takes no transaction fee. Billplz, senangPay, HitPay and Curlec support both, and toyyibPay and Stripe have WooCommerce plugins. Compare the platforms in Shopify vs WooCommerce vs OpenCart.
- Shopline. SHOPLINE Payments is built in, with FPX at a flat RM1.00. senangPay also lists a Shopline plugin, still in testing. See Shopify vs Shopline.
How to choose a payment gateway
- Start with your payment mix. If most customers pay by FPX and orders are above about RM85, flat FPX pricing costs least. If most pay by card, compare card rates.
- Check the plugin. Confirm your platform is supported and whether the gateway adds a surcharge there.
- Count the fixed fees. Billplz Standard costs RM999 a year and saves RM0.50 on every FPX payment, so it pays for itself at about 2,000 FPX payments a year, before any card savings.
- Match payouts to your cash flow. Next-day payouts free up cash sooner than T+2 or T+4.
Gateway fees are one of several running costs, listed in our guide to ecommerce website cost in Malaysia. We build online stores and connect local gateways on Shopify, WooCommerce, OpenCart and Shopline. See our e-commerce service, or tell us what you sell. Once orders flow, our e-invoice apps can submit LHDN e-invoices from the same orders.
Frequently asked questions
Which payment gateway is cheapest in Malaysia?
For FPX, the flat fees at toyyibPay (RM1.00) and Billplz (RM1.25, or RM0.75 on its RM999 plan) are the lowest on all but the smallest orders. For local cards, Billplz Standard and toyyibPay charge 1.5%.
Is there a free payment gateway in Malaysia?
No gateway is free per transaction. Billplz Basic, HitPay and Stripe have no setup or yearly fee, and neither does toyyibPay for FPX, so you pay only when a customer pays.
Is Shopify Payments available in Malaysia?
No. Malaysia is not on Shopify’s list of supported countries, so Malaysian Shopify stores use a third-party gateway and pay Shopify’s third-party transaction fee.
Can I get a payment gateway without SSM registration?
Not with senangPay or HitPay, which both ask for SSM documents. If you trade alone, register as a sole proprietor first. Sabah businesses can use a business licence with HitPay.
Which gateway pays out fastest?
Billplz pays FPX the next business day, and senangPay pays from the next working day. HitPay and Curlec pay on T+2 business days, and SHOPLINE Payments on T+4 working days.
